Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso relies on subsistence agriculture, with more than 80% of the labor force working in the agricultural sector. Increased agricultural productivity has been crucial to this economic growth, and the government of Burkina Faso is investing generously in agriculture so as to increase agricultural production and productivity of the farmers. However, the agricultural extension service of the country is limited by lack of qualified agricultural extension personnel.

Burkina Faso is one of the three SAFE Francophone program countries in West Africa. The SAFE program in Burkina Faso was started in 2004 at University of Bobo Dioulasso.

The purpose of the SAFE program at University of Bobo Dioulasso is to contribute the agricultural and rural development efforts of Burkina Faso through the production of qualified human resource in the field of agricultural extension required to raise agricultural production and productivity of the country.
